Egg
"This one really surprised me. There's something about how the finished piece looks that I couldn't have anticipated when I first started ideating it. Usually, things don't change much from my initial sketch to the final piece—maybe a different tone of blue here, or a larger element there. Overall, the feeling at the end is typically the same. But not with this one.
It's not that I changed a lot during the process, but rather that I decided to stop painting much earlier than planned. Technically, according to the initial sketch, this piece is unfinished. Yet, even so, I believe this painting is perfect the way it is, and I shouldn’t interfere with it anymore.
The egg at the center really jumped out at me, which was a surprise. This painting wasn’t supposed to carry such cosmic significance; the egg wasn’t even intended to be an egg at all. But here it is. The egg is often seen as the source of life, representing the potential for creation and the beginning of new life. It's linked to the idea of the universe emerging from a cosmic egg in many mythologies. I believe that's what happened here.
This piece made me think a lot about the boundaries between the divine and the mortal, the space between the real and the imagined. Each element seems to play a role in a much larger, yet-to-be-understood cosmology—like when you wake up from a dream and start piecing together what you just experienced." - Antonia xx
