"When I began painting this piece for Alyssa, I knew I wanted to embrace and give life to the more feminine aspects of myself. Femininity is a recurring theme in my work, yet it remains something I am still learning to fully access and embody. I find it essential to surround myself with women who seem to move through the world in touch with this energy.
This painting is an ode to that feminine essence. It stirred within me a sense of girlhood, a childlike wonder that is both delicate and profound. As women, we experience many stages of femininity as we transition into womanhood. Yet, I believe it's vital to hold on to the sensitivity that is unique to girls and women—a sensitivity not in the narrow, often misunderstood sense of fragility, but as a profound awareness. A kind of magic, an intuitive sensitivity that only women seem to carry in their eyes.
In Ancient Greece, the swan symbolized the soul. In this piece, pairing the heart, the swan and the soft bubbles with dancing women, I tried to create a visual language for the feminine soul. It speaks to the spirit of girlhood, one that undergoes countless transformations—metamorphoses we must nurture, guard, and honor, ensuring we never lose that sacred awareness." - Antonia xx
