Can't Catch Me
"This painting, titled “Can’t Catch Me,” has a dynamic composition that explore themes of freedom, entrapment, and defiance. At the center is a figure in motion, who seems to dance or leap with arms raised in a gesture of exuberance and escape. There is a lot of intensity in it’s movements.
This painting reminds me a lot of the Fool card in the Tarot, the first card, the number 0. The first step towards what we call The Hero’s Journey
It is a card that represents innocence and freedom with a total openness to life, a complete lack of fear that comes through a total faith in LIFE ITSELF. This kind of attitude can often come with a sense of recklessness, which is something that I always associated with the young. I remember when I was a teenager my mother used to tell me that the biggest advice she could give me at that age was to just grow up and let time flow on its own course.
So with this I really wanted to bring forth this feeling of movement, and leaping towards the unknown, or leaping from a place that has trapped us. Either way, this movement needs to be done with faith, with the reminder that every moment can be a new starting point.
I also believe that the use of bright, contrasting colors for the figure against the monochromatic background only reinforces the idea of standing out and breaking free from constraints." - Antonia xx
